The weeds seem somewhat "young" so I'm tempted to start digging and see if I can't find the crown within the first couple of feet.
This shit seems serious from everything I've read. The article I posted above notes a man in the UK killed his wife and himself upon hearing his property had knotweed (ironically this turned out not to be the case).
