>>604213I can relate to this. I've been swimming in the North Sea all my life, but at some point I started developing a fear/phobia of the unknown below me. I remember the first time I noticed it and it was actually in a pool in swimming class in school. I suddenly felt a fear of something grabbing me og just moving close to me from beneath the waters.
I think it's a natural thing to feel uneasy when you're exposed and can't defend yourself. When you cannot see what's moving below you close by in the waters it's natural to be alert. It's like having some of your senses deprived.
I still swim in the sea, but I have the feeling in the back of my head. I can't relate to Lovecraftian fear of the great oceans... the ancient unknown horrors from beneath the waves...
