>>2844498Like a lot of pipe smokers, I am a big Sherlock Holmes fan and a real gourd calabash with a meerschaum bowl is a box I really want to get ticked off in my collection. The books were one of my first inspirations to start smoking as a teenager. I don't mind investing a (relatively) decent chunk of change in a good vintage one, ideally with some color but not necessary; however, I don't know enough about them to know what to keep an eye out for on the estate market to avoid getting a "conversation" piece versus an actual good smoker's pipe. Anybody have tips/experience with these? And yes I know the calabash was largely a later association with the character, but still iconic.
