the main thing I like a knife on my belt for is being able to cut cordage quickly and effortlessly. It's not just convenient, it can be a critical safety measure. Strong cordage can become extremely dangerous if there are powerful forces nearby and you get caught in it somehow (machines, heavy weights or heights, even large animals). I have a trolling motor on my canoe for example and if some 550 got caught in the prop and wrapped around my leg I could get pulled in the water.
I rarely use it otherwise except maybe to sharpen skewers for hotdogs or whatever.
