>>1283501As funny as it sounds cows love crabgrass
But cows will eat just about anything green, including the poison ivy. And hedge apples
Also, if you live in the US look for your county soil and water conservation district office. They will come out to your farm. Look at your pasture And give you an assessment.(or they should, but government employees )
The types of grass you will need is dependent upon the area where you live and the climate that you have. What zone you’re in...
And if you plan to keep your cattle in the pasture during winter. If you are raising beef or dairy cattle.
You can buy pasture grass mix, which is A mix of various grass seeds or types for your area.
You want more than one type of grass.
See:
https://www.naturesseed.com/pasture-seed/cattle-pastures/beef-cattle-forageMy pasture consist of tall fescue.
Red and white clover.
Orchard grass
There is some reed grass in the wet areas.
The tall fescue is a good food source during the winter. The red and white clover grow in the spring and the summer months. The clover growers well in drought conditions. And the orchard grass growers well when it’s wet and in the spring.
I’ll also cut and bail hay and feed the clover mixture for the winter.
My pasture in September or October notice the clover is gone, because they ate it.
