>>2832778>>2826459>be me, 32 year old neet from Ontario who loves the outdoors but doesn't have a car and can never really get /out/side of the city>start dating a girl who grew up on a small farm in East-Asia and has never gone camping before>we rent a car once in a while for short day hikes >she's slow but seems to enjoy it; only complains about mosquitoes and bushwhacking>decide to plan a two-day canoe trip in the middle of July>although I have lots of experience canoeing due to having a cottage, I have almost no experience canoe camping and don't really know how to plan a trip>plan a trip that's way too ambitious for our level (especially hers)>15km paddle on day one, 15km paddle back on day 2; two portages each way. >didn't even think of preparing for rain or cold nights or anything. Just trusted the weather man>After day 1 paddle we're both totally drained but I make a fire, we cook dinner over it, and we explore the camp site a bit>absolutely amazing feeling of being outdoors, all alone on a lake in the wilderness>slept on a shitty foam pad and had a terrible sleep>second day we pack up and begin our journey back home. >blistering heat/humidity, feel like I'm gonna get heatstroke>we end up swimming in the lake a few times on the way back to cool off>both still having a great time>get back to the car, exhausted, don't want to leave, but have a long drive home>be you>think this story isn't going to end well>be wrong >5 years later, we've upped our game. Just got back from a week long backcountry camping trip at Northern Lake Superior, both had an amazing time (pic related)There is hope bros, you just have to find people who are okay with shitting in the woods and don't need to have a hot shower every night. Also make sure they aren't addicted to anything (including vidya/internet) because addicts are incapable of enjoying the outdoors and will ruin your trip.
