One of the main ways this is done is to repeat the same on-topic posts in as many different ways as possible. /out/ was normally exempt from this due to it being a rather slow board and its topic is a little more difficult for spam bot writers to get into without getting their bots banned. It is also far worse than what most people realize. If you doubt that, you've never been to /b/ or /tv/ before. Both are 75%-85% bot posting now.
