Anybody have an opinion on what the most environmentally friendly meats to raise is? Can’t be bugs, because the feed conversion is the same as chicken and they even need more overhead and infrastructure to produce than chickens. Can’t be beef, because cow farts are literally ripping the ozone layer a new one, also the feed and water required to produce one pound is ridiculous. I would say horse is better because they don’t produce the ridiculous amounts of methane that ruminants do but the resource conversion rate is probably about the same. Apparently raising meat and even dairy goats requires slightly less water than growing tree nuts. I reckon the most Earth-friendly meat animal must be some sort of native desert dweller. It’s tempting to say camels, except they’re ruminants. I guess chicken is alright but I’m looking for a red meat, really, and chickens are prone to heat stress. I’ve heard positive things about ostrich and emu except they’re viewed as dangerous even compared to cattle.
