We positioned the boat perpendicular to the jetty so we could utilise the height of the land to the right when the tide went out, made raising it a piece of cake. Reason for having the mast down was to replace the rigging (it likely came with original rigging, and the boat was laid down in the early 70s - a big risk!). Our marina is mainly full of other people without a ton of money that work on their own boats. Everyone is extremely helpful and willing to share advice and labour if it comes to that.
Thinking about it, another thing you might want to do is pay a visit to your local marina and check the notice board. There will be people selling boats often for cheaper than you'd find on a site like Apollo duck, but more importantly, people looking for crew. If you strike up a conversation with them and explain you've got no experience but want to learn, it's possible they'll just be grateful of the manpower, and can (literally) help show you the ropes. Also a great way to go on adventures
