I continued up pitch four until I reached a section of unprotected slab. Unsure of where to go, I decided to just build an anchor and think about it while belaying. As I pulled up the rope, a solo climber came up from below. He said hello and then climbed over my anchor directly upward through the 20ft or so of slab before entering another crack system. He moved so easily up the slab that it made my concerns about protection seem foolish, and in fact while following his route I found a hidden crack 10ft up that I was able to get a cam into.
