Commercial stuff's great hardware, but it's not designed with hams in mind. Programming software and licenses get expensive, and they lack features most hams want.
If you're not operating in the commercial/part-90 space and need that type certification, you're better off getting a decent ham setup.
All my radios are part 90, that's also where I spend most of my time on-air.
