We hired an outfitter to drive and sail us the 100 km back and forth to the area where we started hiking. You cannot really hike to any char containing river without hiking several hundreds of km and passing meltwater rivers. I think we payed the outfitter around 150 CAD pr person for the transport which is also quite cheap because it takes 4-5 hours each way in an open boat. In addition you need a fishing permit to around 100 CAD and foods which are around canadian or european prices plus 50 % because it has to be flown in to the small towns. And not much to choose from either.
But it can easily become much more expensive if you need to go anywhere other than Kangerslussuaq which is the largest airport. Then you need to transfer to smaller planes or helicopter or boat and those prices are ridiculous for tourists. I once looked into visiting Northern Canada via plane from Toronto/Ottawa/whatever and the plane ticket from Europe to Ontario is cheap compared to the plane ticket from Ontario to up north.
Are there any planes at all from Canada to Greenland? Perhaps you need to go to Iceland or even Europe for a transfer.
And seal is really foul tasting. I have tasted at a few occasions and it tastes like a mix of liver and anchovies or something like that. Musk Oxen is disgusting too, but way better than seal. Reindeer which we also encountered taste good.
Pic is of the small boat and 4WD that brought us from Kangerlussuaq (town) and 100 km west to the rivermouth in the fjord, which is also called Kangerlussuaq.
