I wouldnt even call a 5 weigh a good general purpose rod, I'd say a 6 weight is the most universal cause itll get you from dink trout to decent trout, to bass, and even light saltwater. As for a 4 weight, you can give it more juice than you think. Pic related came on a 4 weight. I was actually fishing for suckers.
