I don't see the downside of keeping an open mind when it comes to anything. There is nothing wrong with having your perceived most likely explanation, but I don't see the benefit to completely ruling out every other explanation that is counter to the one you believe to be true. At the end of the day, despite what you may or may not think, you don't really know anything for absolute certainty. I feel the World is probably a much stranger place than most would want to believe and I think you would be better served by being the type of person that perceives all possible explanations and is surprised by none. You don't want to be the guy standing there frozen with mouth agape when something occurs that you had previously thought impossible.
