>>253285I'm not worried about "animals" in general, but I do not like having my body exposed in bear country. I use a pyramid tarp 90% of the time because almost all my camping is done in bear country anymore. Usually I pitch it with the sides touching the ground.
That said, there's really something liberating about being able to see the stars all night as you sleep under an open-designed tarp. I like doing it when I'm not in bear country.
