They will kill native songbirds and their babies and build their nests on top of their fucking corpses and they are all-around invasive and shitty birds. They do NOT eat insects (what they were originally imported for) but instead eat seeds and vegetable matter so them and their babies will damage a garden. Extremely invasive. I have seen them peck to death a nesting bluejay just to take over the nesting box.
Don't give up eating for garden stuff, trust me, the first and second years are almost always failures, you're better off saving money after you gain some mad skillz with plants. I make money making and selling specialty pet items and that nets me ~200$ a month, but my best is $500 per month on a good month (usually around christmas/january) Even mowing laws for some extra cash like a 10 yr old is good if you can find someone to do it for. That feel is exciting but then disappointment will set in eventually. Just take your time slow and eventually things will come to you, utilize craigslist there's a lot of free stuff.
