Location: Northeastern US, found growing in lawn
Spore print: White
Notes on Cap: Typically 3 inches in diameter when mature, one as large as 5 inches in diameter found. When immature it looks like a jelly donut with a purple indention in the middle and faintly on the rest of the cap. This coloring fades & indention goes away as it opens up to a bell shape.
Notes on Stalk: Sorry about crappy picture, but no ring structures and club shaped. Stalk about 3/4" in diameter and total mushroom height about 3-4 inches.
Other notes: Sweet-smelling when crushed.
Given how distinctive looking this mushroom is I'm surprised I didn't see it in my field guide. Anyways I've ordered two more field guides, one of which is specific to New England, so maybe I'll have better luck in the future.
