>>1974746This $30 650 fill down jacket has served me well, but I live in the South so the need for a warm down jacket isn’t that big. I’ve used it maybe half a dozen times. The quality and warmth are definitely worth $30. I doubt it’s goose down. It’s probably not even duck. They probably used chicken down.
The same company makes an inexpensive 100% synthetic base layer. It’s pretty good. Not nearly as nice as my Ice Breaker and Smartwool merino layers, but pretty good if your poor.
I bought mine at TJ Maxx. You can sometimes scoop up Darn Tough socks there as well, however they’re labeled as “slightly irregular” and won’t be covered by their warranty. You can find Icebreaker stuff but it’s much more rare.
