Now my comment on firearms isn't usually very popular, but you only need two.
You need a semi-automatic rifle with a detachable magazine and a semi-automatic pistol.
Anything else is extra, and if you don't have both of those, you should sell your extra guns to get them.
Your rifle NEEDS two things and should have a third. It needs a light and a sling. It should have a decent optic. Every fighting rifle should have those three things.
Your pistol NEEDS two things. A quality holster and a light.
You need to be able to identify what you are shooting at, and you need to be able to keep your firearm when you are doing things other than shooting. And shooting will be a very small minority of what you do.
After that having additional calibers is nice and all in case you run across more ammo to use, but it is a MUCH better idea to have two guns and a ton of ammo in those calibers so you don't have to worry as much about running out.
I have 7 guns and 7 calibers (2 were gifts from my grandparents). I have about 14,000 rounds. Nearly 9,000 is 5.56. 1,500 is 9mm. 2,700 is .22lr. And the rest is the other calibers.
The vast majority of my ammo is in the only two calibers I will have should I actually need to defend myself.
I don't have that call of duty perk that lets me use two long guns at one time, after all.
I hear squash is easy to grow. But I wouldn't know because I've been procrastinating in starting a garden for a year.
Tell them to do the rice and beans in the 5 gallon bucket thing. And to store some water. Help them with it if they seem unsure.
And I'm a young guy so I don't really know what I'm talking about when I say this, but I would say have a bunch of kids and have them now.
It's only going to get harder and kids do better when they have many sibling around their age.
