I had a polyester topaz at that age. It comes with a jib, but it sails just fine without one. They're also very sturdy compared to similar types of sailing boats of that size. Lasers for instance, are quite good but they are built for contests, so they sacrifice a lot of sturdiness for weight. I now have a small steel boat that is primarily used by dutch sea scouts. They call the boat type 'lelievlet' and they're basically indestructible. (Pic related) They sail like shit for safety reasons, turning into the wind whenever you let go of the rudder. I fix that by mounting a secondary jib to a makeshift bow extension. Any small sailing boat that doesn't need a jib is just about right to sail in alone. I prefer my heavier kind of boat tho, as it's more stable and thus more relaxing to sail in.
