Leachates from plastic are not plastic particles themselves. They are chemicals and plants do uptake those. Plants are also used to help bioremediate contaminated soils using this method. People will grow the plants in the contaminated soil then harvest them and dispose of them in landfills (so it can be someone else's problem) and repeat the process until it is to their liking. Fungi and bacterium can also be used for that, but it will eat the chemicals and change them to more inert chemicals; depending on the type of pollutant chemical of course.

https://www.cdc.gov/nceh/lead/prevention/sources/consumer-products.htm>The use of lead in plastics has not been banned. Lead softens the plastic and makes it more flexible so that it can go back to its original shape. It may also be used in plastic toys to stabilize molecules from heat. Lead dust can be formed when plastic is exposed to sunlight, air, and detergents that break down the chemical bond between the lead and plastics....The internet makes it hard for me to like people in general anymore.
