Maybe patched round balls experienced wind drift at 100 yards, no clue, never got into black powder. You could find the recoil downright pleasurable, that alone is not going to help you keep a sight picture and time the reset. I'm sensing you've never done anything other than shoot a bolt action rifle from a bench at a private range.
