>>292012At one point during our talking, when she was getting really upset and almost hysterical despite my having already backed off, she asked 'Do I really look like I'm capable of that?' to which I replied 'No'. She stared at me for a moment and I recognized the look in her eyes as someone who sizing me up for a punch, then she took a swing at my face. In retrospect I should have let her hit me, I deserved it. We stared at each other for a split second, her eyes were red and puffy and I was feeling more and more like a total asshat by the minute. She complimented me on my block and apologized for taking a swing at me, I apologized for saying she didn't look capable and for confronting her like I did.
I'll call her Chloe for now. Chloe and I hung out for most of morning and afternoon. She's a rather nice girl in her late 20's who spends most of her time reading and writing. As it turned out, the backpack I found hanging in a tree was hers that she left there because she didn't know how to repair it. We went our separate ways as friends, I debating inviting her to stay at the house when she needs, but having only just met her and still being slightly on my guard I figured we would have to meet a few more times before I completely discredited everything I'd heard.
