Motorcycle anon here, was asking for advice on purchasing a rod + reel yesterday. After taking in all the information you guys shared, I spent some time in Sportsman's Warehouse this morning.
I ended up buying a rod.
Okuma SST-S-663 L. It's a 6'6", light, three-piece rod. Came with a little hard case tube that's nice for transport, and will prevent me from accidentally breaking it in transit. Pic related.
How did I do? Good choice for general purpose fishing for small fish to eat in Arizona and surrounding states? If I fucked up I can always return it and get something else, maybe a shorter ultra-light? Idk.
They didn't have the specific reels that were suggested, and nothing really stood out to me, so I'm going to read up a little more on them and maybe check out some other stores.
