If it's April, trying to cross the Cascades might be a bit of a challenge since many roads will still be closed.. and then when you get to Crater Lake, you can't drive the rim road because they don't open that up until maybe June when enough snow melts. So you're just really going for a viewpoint, hiking is sort of out of the question. At least the coast has more than a few treks worth stopping for (aside from the Redwoods, can anyone say Cape Perpetua?) that are perfect in spring, aside from the fact that it'll rain every day you're on the coast bar none. I'd treat the Oregon coast sort of like the Norwegian coast... you're not going to be swimming much, and you better be careful in the rocky areas, because if you fall in one of these churns, good luck getting out before being concussed unconscious.
