The knife pictured here, while smaller in this example, will press through the wood easier making it better for batoning.
I don't think you'll touch one for your price range. It's just that most tactical tantos seem to be very thick as if designed for mall ninjas to try to stab it through various items.
They tend to be heavy.
The sharp point in the middle of the tanto blade also gets in the way when you are trying to do find work or especially if you try to peel/skin anything.
The only two advantages of a tanto are easier to sharpen because straight lines and you can use it like a chisel to scrape stickers off of flat surfaces. That's it and it really is a terrible innawoods knife.
