So after a year of putting it off, finally putting a handle on my Snow&Neally Hudson Bay head. It’s a Hults Bruk handle that I sanded to fit and burned, putting a few costs of linseed before I mount it. I think I wand to sand the head up to 600 or so grit.

Have you looked into tomahawks though? You could get a tomahawk and just cut the handle short.
