It seems I have been discovered. I was leaving the quarry today to go to work, and an older couple were walking by on the road. We exchanged hellos, as you do, and then the gentleman asked me if I saw anyone in there.
To which of course I said no, not that I saw. He then said
"There was supposedly someone in there, had some sort of camp there at the back for three weeks." with an air of concern.
"Yeah?" I exclaimed mildly, feigning surprise.
"Yes. You didn't see any trace of him back there?"
"No, not that I know of." I shrugged with a bemused expression.
"Alright," he says "Good luck". We wave and part ways, I continue up the road.
It should be noted that keeping a kempt appearance, clean clothes and shining the boots of muck before leaving allays suspicion.
But Damn. So someone has seen my camp, not signed my guest book and has been running his mouth about it in the locality. At the moment it appears to be a rumour. I really should have pressed for a few questions, but I didn't know how to put them without blowing my "I'm just out for a Sunday walk" appearance.
So who saw it? How much did they see? Maybe they just saw the outside of it, got imtimidated by the camouflaging (camouflage patterns seem to freak a lot of people out) and left without even reading my folder. I didn't see any boot prints but mine for the last 3 months around my camp, but who knows, maybe they were careful or came on one of the few dry windy days we had so there wasn't much of an imprint.
Still, this has been 3 weeks and nothing has been done. But at the same time I am compromised.
OP is not happy at the prospect of moving camp or having to rent shared accomodation again.
