It is kind of bullshit how property owners like weyerhaueser or ranchers can essentially encircle blm/public land and act as gatekeepers.
So for example with pic related; a rancher or whoever could buy a relatively small tract of land, and gain de facto control over a much, much larger plot of public land; simply by controlling the access. Basically 10 acres or whatever that include the access road means you they can control hundreds of acres, without paying a dime extra.
