>>441546It depends on your idea of self sufficiency, I'd argue that truly independent living is very difficult. I built my own wind turbines, 4 large solar panels, keep a well rotated garden and press my own apples for cider but I still pay a little something to the power company, ISP and water rates. I still have to buy petrol for my cars / mowers and obviously still visit the supermarket. Doing things for yourself is certainly rewarding though, but I wouldn't want to live as a total hermit.
