I own a remshit 870, modern- and I love it. Here is what it gets you over the mossburg:
>cross bolt safety (not really better but I greatly prefer to tang)>dual rods connecting slide to bolt whereas mossburg only has 1. It is a more rigid design and less wobbly>steel receiver (The alloy on the mossburg is great for carry weight but makes their models with synth stocks forward heavy. The remington is better for clays/doves because of the balance)They are both fine shotguns, if you prefer a tang safety and lower weight get the mossburg. Its truly ambi while the remington isnt (fuck devil lefties though). The only valid complaint I see about the 870 super magnum is the finish is more prone to rusting, but if you wipe it down with an oily rag after you shoot (like literally every parkerized or blues gun ever made) you wont have an issue. Mine has gone on numerous wet turkey and deer hunts and there isnt a speck of rust.
Imo the best cheap shotgun you can get is a police trade in 870, especially one that was set up for less lethal use because they got almost 0 wear on them. Just strip and refinish the stock or buy a synth stock.
