You then have the option of powdering them in a mortar and pestle, grain mill, or coffee grinder. Hydrating cracker-dry foods is still easy, it just isn't that good for light snacking, but you can still snack on them.
Sometimes letting a piece of carrot or seaweed hydrate in your mouth before chewing it up can stave off hunger for a long time.
