>>1989408>>1991026It's me, the anon from a few threads back. I've not started my foray into guinea pig raising yet, but I've been reading up on it and learned some interesting things. Guinea pigs can have a much higher proportion of grass in their diet than rabbits at the cost of requiring vitamin C supplementation, live in areas where temperatures fluctuate between 85F during the day and 20F at night as long as they have proper shelter from the cold, and can actually be pastured in runs or free ranged because they don't dig nearly as much as rabbits. They take much longer to gestate than rabbits, but the young are born almost fully developed and can eat solid food within days of being born and be completely weaned within 3-4 weeks. The more I research the more interested I get in their potential as a meat animal, it's a shame the Spanish marketed them as pets instead of food because they're extremely efficient meat animals.
