The volcanoes around Washington look so much better because the rise from sea level and the glaciers make them at least a bit technical.
East coast 4,000 footers >>> some 12,000+ foot mountains out west as mountaineering experiences in the winter. Katahdin > plenty of mountains double the size at less than 6,000 feet thanks to Maine's climate.
