Craigslist can be good for dive gear, but only buy fins or wetsuits on there. Never buy regulators or masks unless they have a 60' lake you can test it in before buying (they won't) and don't buy tanks that aren't current on their inspection/hydro test. Ever. You can also buy spearfishing equipment, but make sure to disassemble it and check all interior components before doing so. You will always have to replace the bands on a polespear or gun, but that's a minor cost. I wouldn't buy a pneumatic gun off craigslist.
