The stories often suggest a paranormal scenario that is almost impossible to explain, like some child vanishing mysteriously 10 feet in front of his parents.
I suspect that most cases are just blatant lies. Someone fucked up and they try to cover it by making up dumb shit about mysterious disappearances. When you lose your child in the middle of the woods, it's a bit harder to accuse you of being a bad parent than if it happens downtown.
Or it might just be skinwalkers, but my money if on degenerates urbanites who should stick to their globohomo shitholes.
