Get the Lowa Renegade in leather. They suit me and most of my friends perfectly when packing 10-20kgs (20-45lbs) walking 20-30km (12-18miles) a day.
It's an all around shoe that can handle stony paths while being great when walking on a wet hilly forrest floor. Don't use them if you plan on walking on asphalt though. They will (like every other semi-stiff boot) kill your feet. They also handle rain and puddles easely with a coat of beeswax every other trip.
Best advice is to never buy something without proper ankle support if you plan on walking anything else than the camino in europe.
Twisting/spraining an ankle can destroy you and your friends hikinh trip and become dangerous if you're hiking alone.
