A size or two up for the spinner blades and longer jig heads to accommodate 5" curly-tailed grubs (always been fond of Gary Yamamoto's). Early this year I was struggling to get bites on that usual setup and it wasn't until I downsized to BeetleSpin that things took off.
I started catching some of the biggest bass I've ever caught, caught my first snakehead (and more since), some sizeable channel and blue cats and much much more. After that I kind of went overboard buying up Mr. Crappie soft-plastics because I found them to work amazingly; especially the "joker" baits for bigger fish and the slimmer "lightning shad" baits for smaller-mouthed fish like white and yellow perch, bluegill, pumpkinseed or anything else that might struggle to reach the hook with fatter bait. To be honest I haven't given the larger setup too much more of a chance this year since I figured out how well these smaller baits worked. It's probably all in my head but I hate to turn my back on a good thing now.
The Potomac was pretty good to me today. Caught a yellow-perch about 3/4" shy of citation size but stupid me opted not to take a picture. Also caught pic related. Not a massive one but very solid and the fight is a hell of a lot of fun on light tackle. I was a little surprised to find one this late in the year but the weather has been mild so they must still be fattening up for the winter months.
