My father has a workshop in a small, isolated village close to a river. He plans to build a house there soon, but has not built it yet. We live in the city currently. In the event of early SHTF (imminent signs of societal collapse) I would pack the car with food and weapons and everything that is important, and drive with my family there. A few of the guys who work for my father own shotguns, so they could provide defense (Along with multiple swords, bows, slingshots, bolas, etc). My father is a carpenter/joiner so there are piles of wood to build barricades and other objects with, there are chickens, ducks and a meadow with many fruit trees. Fields surround it on all sides apart from the rest of the village. we would probably fortify the whole street and let the rest of the village join us or they would unfortunately die (most of them are pretty old anyway) there are fuel stations and shops nearby. The river would provide drinking water and fish. The community would be self sufficient, with guards wandering around the outskirts. People would go out of the main area to hunt, scavenge, fish or forage.
