I sleep in my little old Toyota half the time in the SF Bay Area. It's really easy to do out here. The picture is of an RV that somehow hasn't been hassled here. I've done a couple one month stints in a normal camper shell where I couldn't even sit up and that sucks. Current camper allows me to sit up in my bed and store things underneath.
Depending on your goals a truck can work very well. You can put a full size camper on it if you want and stay in the woods. Or get a tall contractor's shell if you need to be extremely stealthy.
I haven't done it full time long enough to understand all the negatives, but for the right person it's great. If you don't spend much time indoors, like living alone, but are capable of being social and overcoming the stigma then it could be a good idea.
