Something like a 9-10ft would be slower but more maneuverable, and you can get breddy gud recreational kayaks for $200-$300 new these days. The Field & Stream kayaks they sell at Dick's SG are roto molded and they knicked their hull designs from Hobie so they paddle nice, they just don't have much for luxury features.
