>>1873975I’ve taken Skurka’s beans and rice on every overnight trip I’ve been on since finding out about it maybe two years ago.
It’s a combination of dehydrated/instant refried beans, minute rice, taco seasoning, hard cheese, and Fritos. Everything in it is shelf stable or will last several days in mild temps, and easily found on Amazon or a local grocery store. There’s nothing to complicated, no need to dehydrate, and it’s a boil-not recipe. The link contains a full description, recipe, nutritional info, and a video.

Minute rice: 1.5oz
Extra sharp cheese: 1oz
Fritos: 1oz
Taco seasoning: 0.2oz
Mix the beans, rice, and seasoning at home. Cheese and Fritos are both separate. Boil 10–12 ounces of water and dump in the beans and rice. Boil for 1 minute, then add the cheese and continuously stir until it’s melted. Dump in some Fritos and eat it. I add Fritos a little at a time so they don’t get soggy, while Skurka suggest crushing them up. I use 12oz so it’s a little soupy, but 10 works just as well.
