>>2274417Back when I was in high school and we were learning about philosophers and the concept of the social contract, I actually brought up this point. The social contract makes perfect sense as an idea in a time when you could opt out of society by moving out into the wilderness (and plenty of people did just that). But today, even moving into the wilderness requires buying land and paying property taxes so the concept of the social contract just seems like a shoddy justification to mistreat people and guilt them into compliance. The teacher had no response to this and the other students just called me stupid.
