>>2466789>>2466789Here's my day-hike setup for Alaska:
>Rubber boots if it's been raining, hiking boots if dry>Wool socks>Heavy-duty cargo pants (pic rel are made by Propper. Very recommended)>Synthetic or cotton shirt, whatever's clean>Synthetic hoodie or fleeceIn the bag:
>Rain coat and pants (I like the breathable Mountain Hardware rainpants)>Synthetic long underwear>Hat, gloves, extra hoodie/fleeceI try not to do overnight stuff in the winter cuz its cold, and winter backpacking gear is expensive. Lol.
>What brands have you had good luck with and which brands are known for terrible quality.Mountain hardware, at least their rainpants, are really good. Extratuffs (pic related) are great rubber boots. you'll see hipsters wearing them around the cities but they're great for /out/. Propper makes good larp and hiking pants.
>Is it better to buy the cheaper stuff that way you're not worried about getting it scuffed or dirty? Some expensive things are great - For example, breathable rain gear and boots. Other things, like fleeces and warm hats, you can absolutely cheap out on em.
Nice gear or not, you just gotta get /out/ and use it all.
