>>839525 salt or fresh in sd? salt Easy mode: go to mission beach jetty. walk out there early in the morning. bring bait and bring some smaller swimbaits. cast aroung the rocks where the rocks meet the sand and bounce your jig or bait around there. youll get bit. bring a few spoons, a castabubble or a fw popper and a few flys in case macs are there. theres calicos sandbass perch hali's mackerel bonito off the jetty. dont fish the OB jetty unless you want smelt. use a sabiki, tipped with shrimp on a surf bobber if you do. ALSO but some perch crack. 2" gulp camo sand worms. carolina rigg them and toss in the surf...like I said you will get bit.
a little harder mode: spend a few bucks and go out on a halfday trip. the skippers will put you on some easy fish. A overnight to coronado islands is also fun as is the 1-1/2 day trips but I dont think your up to yellow fin and yellowtail quite yet. A half day trip will make you smile fishing the local kelpbeds around point loma and la jolla. youll run into some smaller yellow tail there too (rats) as well as barracuda, calico bass, sand bass, macs, bonito, smaller rockfish, sheepshead, cabezon ect...lots of variety to catch and they are a cheap way to get fish on.
