Couple years ago I went to Anchorage to try to scope out any jobs in Alaska and I'd seen some oil shitz at the employment office, Schlumberger being a name I'd recognized since I used to work for a competitor company in a different oil field.
From what I'd learned when I was over there, it makes a difference already being in Alaska when applying for jobs, it shows you're actually there already and aren't going to blow them off and change your mind while still being in the rest of the US.
