Mate i do like 99% catch and release saltwater fishing, almost always with bait.
My reason is I want the fish to recover some of those calories they burn in the fight so they have the best survival odds after release.
That aside, sometimes I have bait soak for 4+ hours before something takes it, and lord knows im not gonna hold a heavy conventional set up that long.

>prep the gear and bait
>put the time into getting a good spot and setup
>set the lines, then either:
>crack a cold one and shoot the shit with friends
>catch live bait
>fish light tackle
>literally whatever the fuck i wanna do
>get my exercise from the 20+ min fights

Depends what youre looking to catch. A 4000 spinner is great for snapper, flounder, small reds and snook. A 6000/8ft+ rod is great for shore fishing for sharks, big reds and snooks, tarpon, cudas. A solid conventional like a 4/0 or 6/0 senator is great for the big stuff like 6-8ft sharks, jewfish, and large tarpon.

Ill be honest i have by far the most fun on my small 4000, and ive landed many 30in+ reds on it.
