I neglected to mention that it had been raining on-and-off above 4000 feet. I might have ridden further down, but having water splash your sunglasses when it's already dark isn't the wisest idea, and I wanted to camp next to the lava.
So, after a ~95 mile day, I turned in here and ate my dinner in my tent. There are black bears in the Cascades, but I optimistically assumed that there wasn't much to subsist upon in the lava fields.
