For chilling in it during the day w/out using the bug net I just flip it over. The main advantage to a hammock over sleeping on the ground is the lack of lumpy shit poking you. If it's cold you don't need an underquilt if you hang it low to the ground and use leaf piles or pine needles or boughs under you to cut convection, but in the summer, that breathability is fucking niiiice.
You don't need to spend a lot to try hammock camping, you can get a cheap nylon hammock for 10 bucks and that should let you know pretty quick if hammocking is going to be for you, and if it's not then you haven't spent much, and can still use the hammock for chilling out.
Shug's Tensahedron setup looks pretty sweet, it's on my list of things to look up and find out if it's something I can DIY or if I'm better off just getting a finished product.
