The lower weight of them is certainly appealing, but I've used a similar setup with a swag (when vehicle camping), but in practicality I found it a pain in the arse to sleep in. Setting them up is easy peasy, but as much as I hate putting up a tent or packing it up wet in the rain, I'd still rather a tent over a bivy or swag.
However, if there is an awning or rain cover over them, then a bivy or swag is alright.
